Summer Reading Books
Mrs Netteshiem has been collating a range of books from the three Grade 3 classes, including children's and teachers' favourites, and she will come into the classroom next week and share these with the children, we hope that you are able to find many of these in the local Library as well as support the books that you were ablt to borrow from the School Library ALL now in boxes!! If you had any favourite books when you were younger let us know as they can be added to our own class list which is growing by the day as people remember another "Good Read".
Last few days..
The latest challenge for the Class has been " Fraction, Fair /Trade Milka Chocolate Challenge, and we are hopefully putting our skills of fractions, IT information research skills, editing and then some persuasive tactics together to produce an interesting maths session with some chocolate to share.............. Time will tell whether we shall enjoy Fair Trade chocolate OR Milka ...after sharing it between the people on our table in the correct fraction amount.
There have been quite a few great links to the Fair Trade information if you want to check them out, and Estefania showed us the Divine Chocolate a very short but intersting video on Wednesday in CCC's.

Wow, the children and staff were absolutely amazed at the range of foods that appeared on four lunch tables yesterday - a special thank you to everyone for making the effort to send something along.
There was so much that the children had several helpings, so if they were not keen on dinner last night you know why! We did have to ask the grade 5 classses to hlep hoover up some of the "leftovers" and that was even after the most of the staff at school had enjoyed some samples too!
You shall read about some thoughts and see some photos from tomorrow!
Tomorrow is our Sports Day so the children are looking forward to that - our Fridays have been quite sporty lately!!!

I liked my Mum coming becasue she liked the Maths and she liked my stories ( The Panicking High School student" and tThe Crazy Computer)
Today my mum came to my class for Portfolio dat. I think my Mum was impressed with my Maths skills, because at the beginning of the year I wasn't so good but now I'm getting better.
I liked it when my mother was here becasue i liked showing it to her. I think my mother liked the Maths and the Art best. I enjoyed Portfolio day.

GOING BANANAS!!
Our Unit 6 provocation was based around the growing of bananas ( Plantation Owner ) packaging of Bananas ( colouring & cutting out of bananas by Workers ), taking them to a Customs officer to be stamped IF they were OK ( Shippers), then preparing the shop to where customers could come to buy them.
This all sounds reasonable and it was, until the "pay checks" arrived after recess..........
Agnes was the Plantation Owner and "boss" of this group of workers,
Another Plantation Owner was Nina, she had girls working for her, and it was interesting how they got themselves organised!
Last on the "chain" was the Sellers who were very enthusiatic and creative with their shop, at the very end of the morning they were keen to "sell" their bananas and many people were quite happy to buy them too!

Alex had an interesting time keeping his workers going after a short time - they were ready for their "coffee break" , then thought about a STRIKE, until they found out they would not get any pay and how would their wife & family like that!!
Perhaps one of the tricky jobs was the SHIPPERS as they needed to work with the Plantation Owners as well as take the bananas to the Custom Officer (Mrs T) who we did hear from Ryunosoke was "rather tough"!
Sanjiv was a"little bored" waiting for his workers to get some bananas rady so he decided to join them and started colouring and cutting too!

An important insert for your blogs
IMPORTANT NEWS FROM THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL LIBRARY
Dear Parents,
The Elementary School Library is using the month of May to prepare for its move upstairs.
There is going to be a lot of work to do and all of the Library's books and shelving must be packed into boxes by Wednesday the 7th of June, just two days before the end of this school year.
Because of this there is going to be a change to this year's Summer Check-Out programme. Summer Check-Out is the term used to describe the borrowing of books for the summer holidays.
This timetable shows the plan we have put in to place:
20 May 2011 | All things borrowed by parents and by children must be returned to the Elementary School Library by this date. |
23 to 25 May 2011 | The Elementary School Library will be closed. In this time we will prepare the library for Summer Check-Out |
26 and 27 May 2011 | Summer Check-Out will take place over these two days |
This is how Summer Check-out will work:
Summer Check-Out only applies to families who are returning to ISD in August and only if all of your family's library books have been returned.
Each family may borrow up to 15 items
Check out will take place from 8.15 to 9.30 and from 3.00 to 4.00 on both days and all books will be due back on 16 August 2011.
Books chosen in the morning will be available in the afternoon. If you choose your books on the afternoon of 26 May, they will be ready on the afternoon of 27 May.
If you have any questions, please feel free to come and talk with either Mrs Dawber or myself.
Yours Sincerely,
Kirk Owen

Our last Unit in action before the Spring break
We taught them by books and Google Translate. But it was hard. we weren't that ready though. Ryun was answering the questions. Alex and Yuma thought that it didn't work as it was supposed to go like the lesson plan.
Alex thought the test didn`t go as well as he thought. Yuma was very upset because he wasn't ready with the test and he didn't know what to tell. So we were in a rush.
But we worked hard.
These four girls, Natasha, Maxime, Nina and Sonya worked hard to organise their lesson on Art.
We were thinking about what we should teach, but we could not think of anything so Matthew thought of an idea. "The Golden Writing", right after we thought of that, I immediately wrote the ABC'S down. It took a week or two for us to get ready. We did many things to get ready and we finally we were. When we were doing the lesson we showed the poster and then the Power Point, when we were done talking we started teaching, all of us at different tables. We taught them the ABC'S and a lot more. We taught them to write the ABC'S without looking they all did good the most 4 mistakes. MATTHEW.
On the Power Point we did "The Golden Writing" and we did symbols and we all said some symbols and we showed the first writing and pictures of the first writing. It was written on stone. It was hieroglyphics.
By LENNI JULES AND PHILIP.
It was hard to plan out the maths sheets. We ended up making the final test as a last minute page. We had groups: beginner, intermediate, and advanced. We had sheets for each group.
Their second session was about UFO's.
